Peggy Devlin

About the artist: I have lived in the Macedon Ranges, a beautiful part of the world, for the past twenty years. It has provided me with the opportunity to observe the local environment from which I find inspiration for my work. During this time I have been a member of local art groups and have exhibited widely in many local exhibitions.
Conceptually my drawing and painting evolves through paper, media and the organic substances connected with nature. I like to think that the layers of media on the paper create happenings of depth and intrigue.
In my present body of work, I have used pencil, charcoal, acrylic and watercolour paints.
Charcoal is an expressive medium which I find enables me to produce strong or subtle works and soft fluid strokes which dissolve into nothingness. I move the pigment around the paper with my fingers, giving the work an intimacy and to achieve illusionary effects.
This methodology allows me to capture the visual imagery which influences mood, atmosphere and movement.
Illusion invites the viewer to look deeper than the surface of the work and to contemplate the meaning within.
